John Stetch Trio for Clarinet, Cello, & Piano

"Clarinet was my first instrument, for many years, and I always wanted to write something for cello too. With this instrumentation I can play really low or high on the piano, play rubato or even just lay out. I'm very grateful to have had Mark Dover (clarinet) and Andrew Janss (cello) perform this challenging work. It is mostly notated fully - although there is some improvisation, especially in the piano part. I don't where all the musical influences and ideas came from, but the work gives you an idea of what I like to listen to in jazz and classical music. I hope you enjoy it, and thanks for watching."

The Phrase-Shifters

"I formed this group a few years ago while teaching at Ithaca College, New York - I love playing with these guys because they inspire me and pull me out of my usual jazz format; we don't have specific arrangements and so there is a lot of freedom and passing the roles around."
